Posted on Monday 6 July 2009

Indian Railways, Asia’s oldest rail network, will upgrade 50 stations, often was part of integrated complexes including hotels and shopping malls, Anil Mathur reports. In addition, the company will buy 18,000 wagons, set up a factory to make 500 coaches a year, and launch non-stop rail services between Delhi and some key cities such as Jammu, Kolkata, Eranakulam, Lucknow, Chennai and Allahabad.
Rail Minister Mamata Banerjee, made the proposals, adding that that passenger fares would remain unchanged in the railway budget.
