Shanghai Metro’s Line 9 will be extended to the ancient town of Songjiang, in the southwest of the city, according to a Shanghai Morning Post report. Construction will begin on 30 December, and is expected to open in 2012. The new Metro stretch, with three new stations, will cost an estimated CNY2.7 billion (US$393 million), and will connect the Metro to the Shanghai-Hangzhou railway line at Songjiang South Station.
