A Chinese mountain has been renamed in honour of the blockbuster movie, Avatar, the BBC has reported. The Southern Sky Column in Zhangjiajie, Hunan province, will now be known as the Avatar Hallelujah Mountain, as local officials believe that photos of the mountain were used as the basis of the film’s fictional planet, Pandora. Avatar has made US$80 million so far in China, making it the most popular film ever in China.
The local government has also adopted the slogan ‘Pandora is far but Zhangjiajie is near’, and have developed tours of locations which are supposed to have inspired the film, the report added.
