New York opera for Dubai

The Dubai Event Management Corporation has penned a one-year deal with New York’s Metropolitan Opera to bring to performances to Dubai, the Gulf News has reported. Ten operas will be offered during the 2008-09 season, beginning on 11 October with Richard Strauss’ ‘Salome’ at Madinat Jumeirah.

Dubai gets taxi ranks

Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority has established 54 taxi ranks to help passengers in the busiest areas of the city, the Gulf News has reported. Additionally a new SMS number will be allotted to each rank, allowing passengers to text taxi firms if there in no waiting cab.
